Why working with an Acting coach on Your TV Commercial or Film set can help?
Casting Director and On-Camera coach, Channa Geldenhuys, knows how to get the best on-camera performance results from your Featured and Lead confirmed cast, whilst shooting your TV Commercial or feature film, working directly on set alongside the director, producer and
script writer.
Actors have so much to think about when they are working on set. Hitting marks, continuity, points of focus, line changes, "last looks," camera moves, remembering their lines, their cues, listening to the director and prepping before the clapper loader board smacks while remaining on cue as the camera
and sound is already rolling.
We all understand the monster time constraint shooting on very tight schedules between each take
and each scene. The Director usually only has one brief rehearsal before first take which can become unnerving for the actor (especially for actors that are still new to working on set).
Directors and Assistant Directors don’t very often have the time to ‘spoon feed’ cast from only having seen a small “convincing” performance in a casting presentation. That’s why an on-set coach is on cue
to manage “damage control” while the Director is setting up shots for their next scene; insuring the actor is on -camera-ready and fully in the moment upon calling “Action!” It’s not about getting through the scene feeling unnerved. It’s about getting those memorable, authentic, convincing and interesting takes in realistic way; in the least amount of time.
This in turn is also going to take commitment from the Actor. Actors have to be able to do their work comfortably instilling a believable on-camera confidence in any required scene, having come prepared. Figuring out how to work as an on-camera coach with the actor is an exciting, demanding job, and when done right, can really elevate an actor's performance to brand new heights.
Having coached full time for the past 7 years, I must admit that working alongside many local and international actors, models, public icons, performers and all beautiful walks of life that have come to pursue their talent in front of camera, that my work has been carved out to bring out the best in every actor to their very own and best ability.

"Area 51 wishes to congratulate Channa’s casting for her excellent work and effort taken to provide an exceptional cast for the Pep Mens Jeans television commercial. Our Client Zoom Advertising Agency and their client, Pepcor were especially pleased as the commercial flighted on the Friday evening and all stores were sold out of their stock over the weekend. Zoom Advertising attributed this success to the fact that the commercial was mostly performance driven. Well done Channa. "
